Bitkom on the eIDAS 2.0 Council's General Approach

Negotiations are underway within the EU on the proposal to revise the eIDAS Regulation and the associated introduction of a European digital identity (EUID). This represents an important step in the harmonization of a pan-European legal framework for secure digital identification and authentication and will help to ensure citizens in Europe secure, cross-border access to public and private digital transactions. We therefore support the proposal to introduce an EUID. Nevertheless, the current proposal of the European Council offers potential for improvement, which we would like to point out.
